Hotel History

Hotel building was held under the individual project of the leading architect of Moscow - Dmitry Chechulin - and it came in post-war years. Officially the hotel was put into service in 1956. Its name is a symbol of friendship between the Soviet Union and China. The hotel building of Stalin-classicism style always draws a sight of visitors and Muscovites: it is difficult to pass by such monumentalism and grandiosity. External respectability reflects internal respectability: high ceilings, stucco mouldings, valuable wood, granite and marble made hotel "Peking" an elite hotel in a Soviet period. And so it actually was: this complex was considered to be as a "regular" hotel of KGB in the USSR. There was a restaurant "Peking" on the ground floor of the building, which was always popular with Muscovites and visitors.
While the political policy of the country was being changed the hotel suffered changes as well. The joint Soviet-Chinese enterprise «Peking in Moscow», which was opened at the initiative of the governments of Moscow and Beijing, was added to the state restaurant "Peking" in 1989. It was the unique restaurant of Chinese cuisine in Moscow where 15 experts-chefs from the Chinese National Republic worked.
In 1992 on the basis of the Order of the Prime minister of the Government of Moscow hotel "Pekin" by merge to restaurant "Peking" was reorganized in the "Peking" Hotel Complex which was included into structure of financial and economic management of the Mayoralty of Moscow.
Further in 1997 according to the order of the Mayor of Moscow the "Peking Hotel Complex" was reorganized in the State Unitary enterprise "Peking" Hotel-office complex and transferred in conducting Department of property of Moscow. Restaurant "Peking" and restaurant "Peking in Moscow" have been also closed because of unprofitability. On the basis of the Governmental order of Moscow State Unitary enterprise "Peking" Hotel-office complex was re-registered in Open joint-stock company "Peking" Hotel-office Complex in 1999.
